I had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM. After several mechanics looked at it, it was discovered that the CRANK SHAFT SENOR, along with the timing belt needed to be replaced, and this was what was causing the stall. ALSO: I just read this under recalls for that year for the sonata: 2000 Hyundai Sonata ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING NHTSA Campaign #00V259001 Vehicle description: Some Sonata vehicles equipped with 2.5 liter V-6 engines and all elantra model vehicles may have experienced intermittent low-speed engine stalling, which could occur if the maf (mass air flow) sensor electrical signal is interrupted as a result of engine vibration transmitted to the maf sensor connector wiring harness. Consequence: This condition can cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. HOPE THIs was helfulto you.
