I have a 20/20 Elantra with 85,000 miles and an engine light on. A repair shop said it was the camshaft position sensor and replaced it. The light went off but came back. Mechanic replaced it again. Same result took it to the dealer said it could be crankshaft position sensor correlation Bank 1. I said to change the oil try for a thousand Miles and come back. Late sometimes goes off for several days but then comes back. Cost me almost $500 so far.

Hi - Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. Goodness, if I had a nickel for everyone that decided to replace the camshaft position sensor just because a P0340 code was set in the processor - i'd be rich! That code sets typically when the engine stops unexpectedly. It is not usually because the sensor is faulty. Yet people can't help themselves and just replace a perfectly good sensor anyway. A camshaft position sensor is not likely to ever set a "running" code. Therefore, it's not going to cause a light to turn on then off. I would suggest you need a more skilled technician to work with you and your Hyundai.
