What is your question?
* The mechanic that I took my 2014 Elantra to, stated I needed a new engine. The only sound was a ticking noise. That was about three weeks ago. Now the car runs really loud, and I noticed that when I start the car there is water on the ground by the back exhaust pipe. I have no lights on on the dash, and I have been only driving it to and from work (across the street). I was told by another mechanic that it could be an exhaust leak /damaged heat shield. As the original mechanic I took it too, did not provide me with a list of tests stating what was done to verify that it was in fact the engine.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Sounds louder when I first start the car, then seems to get at little quiter.
How long has your 2014 Hyundai Elantra had this problem?
More than a week

Thank you for reaching out to Car Genius. Firstly, these cars and engines are highly prone to failure. There is actually an extended warranty through Hyundai Kia, I believe for 15 years/150k miles specifically for engine failure. I would encourage you, if it is within that 150k miles, to talk to your local Hyundai dealership about that warranty. They could also inspect and know if it's the engine or something else causing the sound. Thank you again for reaching out to Car Genius, please let me know if you have further questions. -Austin
