Do I really have to change my timing belt? I have 65000 highway miles
2 Replies
Just bought my 2006 hyndai elantra with 119,000 miles and no record of timing belt change. How do I know the condition of my belt. Gonna do myself
Hyundai recommends replacement of the timing belt every 60,000 miles. If this belt breaks, you are looking at substantial engine repair. When the belt breaks, the pistons will contact the valves, and you will need to have the cylinder head removed, repaired, and possibly replaced. What I'm saying is, yes, have your timing belt replaced!
