Hello! I'm Dusty, a member of Repairpal's Car Genius team, and I'm here to assist you with any car-related queries. Since the noise occurs when the belt is engaged and ceases when disengaged, it suggests a potential problem with the belt or one of its associated components. First, check the belt for wear and tension and ensure the pulleys are aligned to prevent noise. Additionally, check the bearings of belt-driven components, such as the alternator, water pump, and any idler or tensioner pulleys. A faulty bearing in any of these components could also be responsible for the squealing. If the noise persists, it's advisable to seek professional help to diagnose and rectify the issue. A professional can accurately identify the root cause and prevent further damage. You've taken proactive steps, and involving a professional will ensure effective resolution and smooth operation.
