My 2003 Hyundai Elantra GT has a noise issue. This noise started from few months ago, cold winter, as when I start the car it makes some sort of grinding noise in the background of engine - It appears to be coming from the starter area. The noise is loud at start and eventually goes away in 5 to 10 minutes. Could this be a timing belt issue? I've droven this car for 50,600 miles in 8 years (bought as new) and never had to replace timing belts.

The timing belt should be replaced at 60,000 miles so hopefully the sound isn't the timing belt. The starter could be hanging up and making a noise.
SOME STARTERS REQUIRE SHIMS TO HELP THE TEETH OR SPROCKET ON THE STARTER ALIGN WITH THE FLYWHEEL,OR THE MOUNTING BOLTS ON THE STARTER COULD BE LOSE. INSPECT FLYWHEEL AND STARTER FOR BROKEN OR WORE OUT TEETH.
