That is an inconvenience - I’d have qualified personnel do some *hands-on* testing.

Probably got something to do with the PARK position interlock.. You know - got to be in PARK before key can be turned off and removed... Disconnecting battery defeats this interlock ., May be gummy down in there from coffee / soda spilled into shifter cavity - which turns viscous with age.. That sort of stuff... Good luck!
