When I press the brake pedal, the yellow flashers illuminate in the rear lamps.

I did reverse the sockets, but then the turn signal no longer worked properly (ie. the yellow flasher lights went off an on for the turn signal). You make a good point about just noticing it, however, 4 people in the last week have told me of my problem. I have owned the car for 4 years, and not once has anyone indicated the malfunction to me.
