Rebers d Reversed battery hookup now I get no acceluration when I push thegas

When the battery is hooked up in reverse you have to hit the brake to go and the gas to stop and the car should be in reverse to go forward and drive to go backwards.... Ok but really, does everything else seem to work besides the acceleration? Does it go in reverse? Does the engine respond at all when you press the gas (meaning like does it rav up or is does it idle like you wasn't pressing it)?
