IF the check engine lamp was on because of an EVAP leak, and you fixed it by installing your gas cap you will have to drive it a while to reset the monitors. Or, unhook the battery for about 5 min and reconnect it. However this will erase the "history" diag data making it more difficult for a technician to diag your concern.
