What is your question?
Me and my Friend (both of us are under 18) are working on this 3rd generation prelude that was sitting for about 5 years. We both work on this almost every Saturday and the following are the things we have done to try to get this thing running: New Fuel pump, New fuel filter, brand new oil, as well as a battery. After we changed the fuel pump & filter, it ran for 1 hour and didn't seem to have any noises or anything. Interesting part is when we met again the next weekend, it was cranking but will only run when you push the gas pedal, though when you let go of the gas pedal, it would just die. So far we either think it could be a compression/fuel pressure problem or a fuel injector problem. We have been bamboozled for the past few weeks since we can't figure out what the hell is wrong with this car. (Also brakes are shot, and I would like to know how to perform compression tests) Both of us would be very happy for a answer from a professional.
How long has your 1991 Honda Prelude had this problem?
Two - Three weeks

Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. So sorry to hear you're having trouble with your vehicle. You've done a fantastic job so far on your Prelude! Given the symptoms, it sounds like a fuel delivery or idle control issue. Since the car has been sitting for a while, I would first make sure you have fresh gas to rule out fuel contamination. The idle air control valve (IACV) might be dirty or faulty, which could cause the engine to stall when you let off the gas. Also, check for any vacuum leaks, which can lead to stalling issues. Since it ran well initially, a compression issue is less likely, but it's good to rule it out. To do a compression test, you'll need a compression gauge, and follow these steps: 1. Remove the spark plugs. 2. Insert the compression gauge into the spark plug holes one at a time. 3. Crank the engine a few times with the throttle wide open. 4. Record the pressure reading and compare it to your service manual’s specifications. Keep up the great work, and don't get discouraged!
