What is your question?
My 2008 Honda Pilot AWD with 200K miles has developed a transmission shudder when shifting. I have driven the car 80k miles without doing a drain and fill. One was done at 124k miles. Reading online, it appears doing a drain and fill might resolve my issue. Is this a wise approach for my car?
What makes this problem better or worse?
Shudder is most noticeable around 30-45 mph during gentle acceleration
How long has your 2008 Honda Pilot had this problem?
More than a month

Hi - Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. Your transmission needs to be serviced every 30,000 miles or so. To go that long is just basically asking for trouble. Yes, I would definitely recommend draining and filling the transmission and reevaluating. You may need to drain and fill it several times – this will get more of the fluid out. Only 3 to 4 quarts will drain at a time; there are probably 11 or 12 quarts in the transmission and torque converter at any given time. When you do multiple drain and fills, you will replenish most of the fluid. Then, drive the vehicle to see if improvements are noticed. It could be that the friction modifier's in the transmission fluid have broken down and replenishing will make it better. , it could be that the transmission itself has experienced internal issue as a result or for unrelated reasons. I need help draining and filling the fluid or doing further diagnosis I would recommend reaching out to a qualified shop near you.. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link to find some shops near you who can help out! or call us at 877-913-1554.
