transmission

What is your question?

My 2003 pilot (140000 miles) has a high pitched whistle/hum when accelorating between 35-45 mph; otherwise drives very well. was told gears were bad, but had to replace entire transmission with Hondas. Is this right, or can it be repaired? Has anyone else had this problem with other diagnosis?
