The engine RPM at idle should be about 700 RPM and as you press the accelerator the RPM gauge should indicate increased engine RPM. The RPM gauge is independent of the speedometer. The speedometer will only read as the vehicle is moving and will increase with the velocity of movement of the car. The RPM gauge reads engine RPM.
