Hello, This concern has been driving people crazy for quite some time. Since the engine is a timing chain engine, it may be a worn timing chain tensioner, oil pump drive chain tensioner, bad lifter, oil starvation, a bad wrist pin (internal engine), or a plethora of other ailments that are equally as irritating as they are expensive to remedy. In your case, it sounds like a tensioner or a lifter since the sound goes away as the engine is used. They can do this because they may bleed off oil pressure when sitting, but as the engine oil pump creates pressure, it can provide them with more oil than they can bleed off, so they function until the vehicle is turned off again. The issue can be located and repaired, but you may find that pinpointing the noise may require significant deconstruction of the engine.
