Shift Lever Position Indicator flashing

What is your question?

Came on on my way home from work today. Manual states it may be a transmission problem, but to check the transmission fluid. I checked it and added a little over 1/2 quart to bring it up to the full line. Test drove it and the light started flashing after driving 3/10's mile.

What makes this problem better or worse?
