What is causing a groaning sound when I turn?

Hello, Your power steering pump is pumping air and power steering fluid, or is failing. Check the fluid level, fill if necessary, look for leaks, and drive around turns for a few minutes. If the sound persists, returns, or you find the fluid has returned to low anytime thereafter, have it inspected by a professional technician to find the source of the leak/groan. It will be in the power steering system most likely.
