does the pulley bolt have right handed or left handed threads

Opening the bolt anticlockwise opens the bolt. There is a special tool made that fits inside the crank pulley and using a second half inch breaker bar allows you to break the pulley bolt loose. I don't have the part number off hand but you should be able to find it on line about $45
The use of the starter was mentioned by another contributor. It works, but is dangerous. Use this as your last resort and only if you truly know what you are doing/understand the risk. A better option might be to use the special tool (to hold the pulley from spinning) and an impact socket, long extensions, and a good breaker bar with a long pipe to extend the length of the handle. Brace the long extension on a support of some type....then loosen that drive shaft bolt. To loosen the bolt, go counter clockwise. The drive shaft pulley is going clock wise. The bolt will be very tight....180 ft lbs plus years of use. After removal, you might want to change the oil seal behind the pulley; very simple to do at low cost. (<$20.00).
