What is your question?
The drivers side window on my cr-v won't come back up. It sounds like the motor is running, but the window won't come up. When I took it into the dealer they said the motor needed to be replaced because the teeth in the gears were worn. This sounds wrong to me. I would guess that a belt or something may have worn but am doubting that the whole motor assembly needs to be replaced. Anyone have any thoughts on whether the dealer diagnosis is legitimate or not?

The window on my 1998 CRV would not come down at all. Just stopped. I took it to the dealer to it was the motor and approx $500.00 to repair. I took the car to two other mechanics same answer, and the price was $450-$500. Yes its a motor.
I had the exact same thing happen to my 1998 crv. I took the door panel apart and could see for myself that it was spinning but not catching the teeth. Window regulators are normally about $180 I think, but I found one for $80 from a place called JDM Auto Parts http://www.jdmaparts.com/ (JDM: Japanese Domestic Market) my mechanic only charged me for an hour to install it.
Same problem here, I paid $54 though and did the install myself. I was a little scared at first, but it was pretty easy overall. I ordered the part (regulator and motor) online from 1A auto parts for $54 with free shipping. I found some Honda manuals online for free and spent about 2 hours installing it from start to finish, and it works great.
