Could be one or more of a hundred different things. If the "check engine" light came on what code sis it set? Don't know? Most auto parts chains (AutoZone, Advanced Auto, etc...) will read the codes for you free. Post the codes ( they will start with P and have 4 numbers) here and maybe someone can at least take an educated guess.
