What is your question?
I recently purchased a 2019 Honda Civic LX, i started to notice the gas smell through the vents when the ac is running and mainly when i get on the gas. I’ve taken it to two Honda dealerships, they both inspected and said there was no leaks at all, recommended me change the cabin air filter and do a mister through the vents or an “ ionizer “ i believe what it was called. I paid 100+ to have this done, as soon as i left i still noticed the smell nothing different at all. I really don’t want to do this run around that dealerships do, I’ve read a few things on google but can anyone please help me in the right direction. UPDATE: i had a mechanic shop run leak tests and checked over everything and could not locate the problem either. No leaks at all, but the gas smell is still coming through vents. Was told it’s not a raw gas smell it’s combusted gas
What makes this problem better or worse?
Worse when i get on the gas/ ac or heat running
How long has your 2019 Honda Civic had this problem?
I just bought it a week ago and immediately noticed it after 2 days

Hello, this is highly abnormal; I deal with Honda's on a daily basis and have never heard of this. My feeling is that you are smelling something that is not gasoline but something else from an unknown source. Definitely keep after it to ensure it's resolved. Even have the exhaust system checked to ensure there are no small leaks somewhere that can introduce fumes into the cabin. Try to change your climate control system from introducing outside air to recirculating air and back again to see if it makes a difference. Since you just bought the car a week ago, another thing is that someone could have "detailed" the engine compartment, which could have "cleaning" or polishing products under the hood burning off of hot exhaust components. Also check for any oil leaks (doubtful). As a side note, "ionizer" and "mister through the vents" is a massive waste of money and upsell effort by the dealership, and in general is to be avoided.
I have a 2019 1.5 Turbo Hatchback and just noticed this starting about two days ago. I searched and searched, but came across one post (I can't find it now!) where they said they had the dealer look for leaks, and took it to an independent mechanic for leaks, nobody could find the source of the odor. Finally, they noticed the rubber trim along the top of the firewall area that sits against the hood had come loose... The intake for the A/C is in that area, and simply reseating that rubber seal solved the problem. It solved it for me.
I have this exact model civic and I am experiencing the same problem. Mine is at the dealership right now they they told me (as well as an independent mechanic) they they couldn't find the source of the smell. I wonder if this is also my problem. I will check with them tomorrow. How loose was the rubber trim? I'm wondering if it is dislodged/out of place, how could the mechanics not have noticed?
The local mechanic shop i took it too ran a smoke leak test to look for leaks, they also said they checked the exhaust for leaks and found nothing. I have not tried to change the ac to recirculate i will do that in the morning first thing, and see what happens from there. We thought the same as well maybe burning off cleaning products but with seeing how often it happens and specifically when i get on the gas, we don’t think that’s it. I wish i would’ve known the mister was just a waste.
Update, i turned on the recirculate button, and i didn’t get the smell. But once you turn it off and again get on the gas, it’s there.
Were you ever able to get this fixed? i am experiencing the same problem.
