Over heating

Honda has been over heating lately I add coolant and water it works for a quick second but then it's back to over heating I took off the thermostat thinking maybe that's the problem but it's still over heating also, my engine light would just stay on but know it's blinking I have 204000000 miles on my hond civic .. does my car it's thermostat??
