trying to change the front brake pads and can't get the bolt of the bottom part of the caliper.

Try using a penetrating fluid to work into the bolt. Then, using a socket ratchet, tap the end of the ratchet with a hammer and "dink" it loose. Also make sure your turning the right way because it will be in reverse if the bolt is behind the caliper facing out.
