I have a 2002 honda civic when I'm driving doesn't matter how fast or slow I'm going the rpm hand goes up and down then goes to zero and shuts off it will crank back up and later on down the road does same thing. What could this be?

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! It sounds like your 2002 Honda Civic is dealing with some sort of electrical or fuel delivery issue. The RPM needle jumping around, followed by the engine dying, could be due to a failing crankshaft position sensor, ignition switch, or even a fuel pump problem. The crankshaft position sensor helps the engine know when to fire, so if it’s acting up, that could cause the engine to cut off. I'd recommend scanning for trouble codes to see if any sensors are flagged.
