D4 light blinking and check eigine light and won't start until I reset it by taking battery cable off over night

Hello, when you say it won't start, does it crank without starting? Or does the engine not crank at all? Also, keep in mind a check engine light doesn't mean anything until the engine is running and it's illuminated.
