car cut off

You said cut off. Do you mean it stalled and would then crank over and start or crank over and not start, or has the car gone totally dead, no cranking no lights on the dash with the ignition key in the "on" position? Some basic tests are needed to see if the problem is electrical (battery, battery connections electrical portion of the ignition switch (common problem on the Civic)) or if something mechanical has failed like a broken timing belt.
