In my experience with 5 Hondas beginning in 1979, no, that is awfully soon for an alternator. With a rough estimate of around 500K miles among the 5, I don't recall ever replacing an alternator. I can't swear to it, but I recollect that the earliest I had to replace a factory battery was around 6 years. YMMV especially if you live in a very hot area. My '91 is still running on the original alternator at a bit over 170,000. Of course accidental damage by someone attempting a jumpstart improperly could have doomed your alternator to an untimely early death...
