What is your question?
My 17-year old son's used car with 114,000 miles on it uses an excessive amount of oil. We bought the car used from a local used car dealer/service center that we trust which bought it a car dealer auction specifically for him in August 2021. This car came with a 3-month/3,000 mile powertrain warranty unfortunately while my son did take the car into be evaluated within the 3,000 mile warranty period and they performed an 'oil consumption' test. He was instructed to bring the car back after driving it 250 miles, he brought it back after 281 miles and they confirmed excessive oil consumption and the shop submitted a claim to warranty administrator which was denied due to his mileage when he returned to repair shop being 15-miles over the 3,000 mile powertrain warranty. Besides having the repair shop replace PCV valve for $70 - $90.00 is there anything else we should do to diagnose issue such as compression/cylinder leak down test?

Hello, 4 cylinder or V6 engine? Either way, there are known concerns for the engines in this Accord to have excessive oil consumption. Honda provided extended warranty coverage limited for probably 8 years from the original in service date of the vehicle. Beyond that, there's not much help to be had for someone who did not purchase the vehicle new or did not service exclusively at a Honda dealership. The engine will require tear down to inspect cylinder walls for scoring and piston rings for sticking. Of course, the valves and head should be checked. If the cylinder walls are not scored, then replacing piston rings is usually a successful repair. You will definitely want to find someone quite experienced with performing this kind of repair. Note that a lack of consistent maintenance is the root cause for the concern here. It's not so much a defect as it is lack of servicing. Many owners of these Accords went 10,000+ miles between oil and filter changes, because the maintenance minder didn't recommend anything more frequent.
