What is your question?
We have a honda accord that was getting a mis fire on cylinder 3. So we took it to a shop & they re-did the heads to take care of the problem. After driving it for a month we started getting the check engine light again & it was mis-firing on the same cylinder & it kept eating coolant. We took it back & it looks like they put some radiator stop leak in the system. Is there a situation where that stop leak is ever a good idea?

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! YIKES! The things I've seen when folks use stop-leak. It's the stuff of nightmares! Using radiator-stop leak products like Radweld is only a good idea if you're losing coolant, stuck in the desert, and the coyotes are starting to surround you. It's completely temporary and never a fix. Using it to mask ongoing issues like coolant consumption or misfires, is a big nono, especially after major engine work. Stop leaks can clog cooling passages or affect engine components, potentially causing more problems. Rather than relying on stop-leak products long-term, address the root cause of coolant loss with proper diagnostics and repairs. Sounds like there could be an underlying issue Make sure that cylinder 3 has compression! Good luck! If you have any other questions, please call us at 877-913-1554!
