after car has warmed up and ran the next time i get in to go, have to rev up just to keep it running for like 5 min and then gas it to get it to go

The fuel filter is integrated into the fuel pressure regulator, which is accessed by dropping the gas tank. You would get the fuel pressure tested before replacing the filter. Should have 35 to 45 PSI running. I'd be interested to know whether the intake air system has a leak in it, allowing unmetered air into the combustion. Look for loose clamps or a split in the rubber intake duct. Also, there could be other engine control problems, like a sticking EGR valve. Is the check engine light on? If so, that indicates that the computer has detected a fault in the engine control/emissions systems. There would be trouble codes and data available to a technician with a scanner.
