What is your question?
I have a 2001 Honda Accord that needs a new transmission. The Honda dealer said it would cost around $5000. Can you tell me if this price is about accurate or could I get it done much cheaper? And, would you recommend only a Honda dealer replace it or can someone else do it with just a good of a job? Also, I have 130,000 miles. Any recommendations for the area with zip code 23188 or 23601. Thank You

FYI: I own a 2001 Accord also and have been complaining since I bought the car that the transmission did not perform well, considering the high dollar car I purchased. I had an extended warranty on the car and did regular service maintenance by the dealership, only to have them "service" the transmission and not be able to duplicate any problems. Now at 125,000 miles and major slipping and jerking of the transmission, I had the motor mounts replaced but was also informed that it could very well be the transmission. ( oh what a surprise !) I have been researching the internet, only to find that people are furious with Honda about this same issue and are wanting a class action lawsuit filed. I don't intend to let Honda get away with it and will continue to pursue my options as to my transmission issue. If you had continual problems since before your warranty ran out, I would contact Honda and complain about this issue.
From the perspective of someone with experience as a Honda Service Director: Get in touch with the manager at the dealership. Hopefully it is a dealership you had some regular service with. They can and will go to bat for you with Honda. Honda's procedures specifically call upon the dealership service management to interface with American Honda directly on behalf of customers with issues as yours. You can usually save maybe 10% - 15% on the cost of your transmission replacement -- at warranty rates, which usually saves you a bunch more compared to the $5,000 retail quote. The only challenge you will face especially is your mileage, as the higher mileage cars may not even qualify for help, depending on the situation. I cannot guarantee anything of course, as it's a case by case decision and largely is based upon relationship of a customer to a dealership and making a solid case for assistance. It does not hurt at all to ask, though, and escalate your concern. I can factually tell you that I have obtained assistance for folks such as yourself in the past.
