What is your question?
The day after going over a HUGE pothole, I noticed the smell of gas coming from my 2001 honda accord. My mechanic said he could not find a leak on the gas tank, that it must be very high up, and it is not yet repaired. I'm wondering if it may not be on the tank itself, but if the large jolt my car took caused a compromise in another place of the system, a small connection or something underneath the car.
What makes this problem better or worse?
nothing
How long has your 2001 Honda Accord had this problem?
1 week - since hitting VERY DEEP and CONCUSSIVE pothole

Yes, you could damage the fuel tank, fuel filter neck, fuel line or anything else in the undercarriage. Have your vehicle professionally examined as soon as possible -- fuel leaks are a fire hazard.
