what would cause my autotransmission to slam into gear between first and second

If there is an internal problem with the transmission, it will have harsh shifts. Better have a very good ATRA certified trans shop look at this.

just to add to dan, there is a throttle cable adjustment for the shifts. a trans shop will be able to tell you if they can perform this. Roy
