Key does not want to turn in either direction but once it does the car will not start. It tries and has full power to lights and radio

The battery is good, its trying to turn but just no follow through. When i manage to get the key into the forward position you can hear the fuel pump kick on. The ignition switch failing is a very common problem with these cars so i took the stearing colom apart and my daddy taught me a little bit about a little bit so once i get the switch am i gonna be in over my head trying to replace it i guess is the real question at this point
