FUEL GAUGE GOES FROM FULL TO EMPTY AND IS ERRATIC MOST OF THE TIME.

I often find that the fuel tank sending unit is the cause of this problem. Some other possibility's are the dash cluster and/or faulty wiring. It is a wise practice to replace the entire fuel pump module and not just the sending unit.
