Testing performed can monitor commanded gears and actual gear engagement, as well as shift solenoid activity. This is a great place to start looking at how the transmission is operating. It is not terribly plausible that an "ignition starter switch" could act to negatively affect shift timing of the transmission, but i'm sure anything is possible. Testing would reveal much about what is happening and why.
