It possibly could be a clogged fuel filter that is letting enough gas through to idle but not to accelerate. Another possiblity is a bad catalytic converter that is going bad and not letting the exhaust through so it won't accelerate well.
gm has long had an issue with fuel pumps. i have owned a few and at my shop, it is my experience the fuel pump will produce enough pressure to start and run, but not enough volume to accelerate, this must be verified with a fuel pressure guage on the fuel rail, pressure should stay over 48-50 psi when accelerating. i see fuel pumps replaced every 80- 100 thousand miles on a regular basis. be sure to replace filter and FUEL PUMP MODULE. the module is needed because the wiring gets burnt and sometimes causes premature failure. the filter because it causes the pump to work harder when it is clogged- causing premature failure.. hope this helps!
