I ran out of gas and put gas in and now truck won't start

did you turn the key to on,not start,3 or 4 times,on,off,on,off,on,off to prime the fuel line before trying to start it?

Sounds like a faulty fuel pump I had a full size blazer 4x4 and the same thing happened to me

Try some starter fluid and maybe replace fuel filter
