On your 2015 GMC Terrain that kind of loud rumbling or roaring noise that comes and goes is most commonly caused by a failing wheel bearing, which can produce exactly that kind of cyclical noise that changes with vehicle speed and load. However since you mentioned it happens specifically when pushing the gas pedal, an exhaust leak is another strong possibility, as a crack or failed gasket in the exhaust manifold can produce a loud rumbling or popping sound under acceleration that can sound surprisingly similar to a motorcycle.
