After repair work car will not reset or pass emission test

I had repairs done a week ago. I was told I need two parts . My car failed to start several times, I had to get a jump. I also purchased a new battery. First battery since I purchased the car new in 2014. When I took car in for inspection, I failed the emission test. I had the recommended repairs done and, now the car will not reset, unable to pass emission test. I have driven the car in stop and go and highway traffic. I have put about 200 miles on the car trying to get it to reset as instructed by the mechanic. What else can I do?
