Locked in Park, the break lights work

What is your question?

I drove my truck around all day today. When I went to drive somewhere hours later, I was unable to shift from park to Reverse. The break lights come on. What could my problem be and approximately how much do you think it will cost to fix it? I noticed that the shifter i extremely rigid when I pull it towards me. It won't allow it to be pulled fully towards me.
