Even IF you had successfully replaced the ignition lock cylinder... How did you figure you would get the engine to run without the correct key for the security system??? .. It's called the 'Mass Jacket' and it ain't going to be easy... www.alldatadiy.com . Plus you gonna need some hands-on help including a locksmith to make you a key that will work.. *Save the original key* locksmith has got to have that!!..... Good luck with it!
My key works great...I pulled out my ignition switch, and have been starting it by putting a flat small screw driver into the round hole, and turning the ignition switch teeth until it starts..it works great..don't need a locksmith..just need to replace the mass jacket.. I got my key code from my dealer, and correctly coded my ignition lock cylinder.
Ok , then it must not have the VATS (security system) .. You are going to have to purchase a repair manual or the subscription to alldada.. No way to type out instructions on this page... I doubt if a YouTube video is avail for that particular repair .. Don't know your skill level nor what exactly needs to be replaced but the mass jacket is pretty involved and if not familiar with steering column work well past the steering wheel , strongly suggest hands-on help from someone that has that experience! .. You may want to consider a used column assembly from salvage yard... Just a thought.. Good luck.
Ok..thank-you...so the steering wheel does need to come off??..if so, I'll take it to the dealer.thanks I found a used column for 50.00.....is it a real detailed repair to change one out?..u think there is a YouTube video on it?..thankyou
That's the ONLY way to go!!.. You can't buy just the parts you'll need for that price...Cant hurt to take a look and see if there is a video, might be one for the assembly replacement... That's a hell of a lot easier than tearing down the column itself!.. You can swap out the lock cylinder so your key will work as well.
Ok..thanks for your quick response...I do appreciate it
