I recently had a Pcode repair -( evap emissions vent solenoid) on my gmc 1500

the casister vent solenoid and the vent valve was replaced. I now have a non-working gas gage, could this have been affected by the replacement of the eev solenoid? Repair shop now states I need to replace the fuel pump for approx $900. There was no problem with the gage until after this repair. Please advise
