What is your question?
This vehicle has a 6 liter engine & 4 spd. auto trans., has 164,000 mi. on it. I purchased it with 75,000 from a dealer. Since that time I have had to replace the flywheel 3 times and it needs it again. The last time @ 137,000 mi. the repair shop installed a "spacer" (which it didn't have previously, indicating that's probably why it cracked. Each time the cracks develop at the bolt holes & radiate out. The noticeable symptoms are a rattling or crackling noise at idle, similar to the sound made by the "heat riser" in the older engines. Does anyone else have this ongoing problem.

Not seeing this at the shop... That sounds like a torque converter/transmission issue... I have to assume it was installed correctly because it's not that difficult... We just ain't had that problem at work and there's several of these around the community as work vans..nor on other GM vehicles with similar running gear.. Using GM parts?
Yes, both times I've had it done at reputable repairs shop, 1st. @ Mid-Mich. auto parts on Richfield road and the second time @ Pioneer Transmission in Lapeer. I have no reason to suspect either of them. It has always had an unusual sound when engaging the starter, just doesn't sound like a GM starter, but the teeth on the flywheel have never been distorted or chewed up. Trans is in great shape, shifts perfectly, very clean inside, Had the vehicle inspected for accident damage before purchase, found nothing, record is clean. Other than this problem, its been a great work van, lots of power, can carry anything easily (we are a plmb./ Mech. contractor. In my opinion, the replacement flywheels look like they are leftover from the Chevette. With 300 H.P. it should be heavier duty!
Wish I had more ammo.. but I'm out!
Thanks for your input. I am waiting for Pioneer to call me back to see if they can warranty it in any way. 27,000 mi. shouldn't be enough to hurt it like this. similar amount previously. Clearly, something is out of whack!
Yep something is binding up in there.. This is not a common problem!.. I mean we see some cracked flywheels across the board from time to time , stands to reason but not on the same vehicle every few thousand miles!.. Post findings if anything is found.. Be helpful for others that 'might' be having this problem.
