What is bank 1 02 sensor

There are 3 O2 sensors. Bank 1, sensor 1 is on the drivers side exhaust pipe in front of the catalytic converter. Bank 2 sensor 1 is on the passenger side exhaust in front of the cat, and Bank 1 sensor 3 is located in the exhaust pipe right behind the cat.
