Looks like it's been in there since 96. I'm trying not to give in to one of those lube joints for such an easy DIY task. I know I can remove the cover and put a new gasket on too, but at 195,000 miles it seems like unnecessary labor for me.
What makes this problem better or worse?

Hello I don't honestly see a specific concern or direction on removing the drain bolt. The workshop manual does not address any special procedures.The bolt may be binding in the housing by now, however, so be aware of that.
3/8 extension and ratchet is ALL the tools that’s needed - - the rest is your capability.
Fill plug is 3/8 female square drive.. Good luck!
