put it in D all the time, except when pulling a load.i have a 2000 f150,and never take it out of D.it won't go into overdrive until 45-47 mph anyway.at 55 mph,i am running at 1350 RPM after OD kicks in.
i just read all of this again.i think we are on 2 different pages.what i meant was that my overdrive stays on all the time.meaning my shift indicator stays in D and the overdrive button is on the end of my shifter.the transmission will not catch in overdrive until around 45-47 MPH.if i push the overdrive button,it turns overdrive off and will not catch(overdrive) that last gear where the RPM's drop down.at 55 MPH the RPM is dead on 1350
Should I put it in drive when driving at higher speeds or on the highway? I am not in 4 wheel drive.

I will try it in drive. Thank you.
