my 2002 envoy overheated,what could have caused this?its a 2002 gmc envoy

Hello, It could be, but it could also be a leak, radiator, heater core, thermostat, low coolant, bad radiator or reservoir cap, or one of a few bad gaskets. I'm not saying so to be facetious, just to advise against replacing the water pump without diagnosis. Determining what causes the issue is easily done by pinpointing what makes it get too hot, if anything you do cools it down, if you are noticing smells of coolant, and where the heat is being held (engine v. radiator and hoses).
