What is your question?
The temperature gauge needle lays flat on the far left side of the gauge (160 degrees). The fan will continue to run after the engine is tuned off and will start up two or three more times before shutting down. When the fan is operating and the air conditioner is turned on, warm air is blowing from the vents. Sometimes the engine light is on and sometimes it is not. The temperature sensor was recently replaced and things seemed to have returned to normal, however the same pattern had resumed after a day. A rat chewed up some wiring during the winter months of either January or February, 2024 and the wiring was not replaced but reconnected and taped. When the fan is not operating, the temperature gauge needle operates normally.
What makes this problem better or worse?
There does not seem to be a set pattern. The problem sometimes occurs after driving for a while and sometimes it begins when the engine is started.
How long has your 2021 GMC Canyon had this problem?
Since January or February of 2024 when the rat chewed some wiring.

Hello, from what you've shared, you have a significant amount of variables here because for example - the rodent damage could be something that is continuing to cause issues. You absolutely must repair any damage wiring - including possibly replacing affected wiring harnesses as needed. You must verify the wiring is not an issue before doing anything else. Further, if you perform testing with known good wiring, you'll need to follow troubleshooting related to the set diagnostic trouble codes in the engine's processor. Remember that your engine cooling fans also double as condenser fans - which runs when the air conditioning system is turned on -- which can be hot or cold. The fan running is actually the result of other issues occurring. So, best too get too the bottom off those issues before anything else. Since you noticed issues at the time you found the rodent damage, I would focus there as far as the likely source of the concern and likely key to resolving it.
