car has 75k mi. runs well, however everytime I make a turn it makes a loud screeching noise that seems to be getting louder. I check power-steering fluid an d belts look good, so what's causing the noise?

Even though your power steering belt looks good it may be loose. This actually just happened to me about a month ago. I thought the power steering belt was going out on me. I took it to the shop and they told me the belt was in great condition but the bolt that holds it was loose so the belt was loose and that's why it was screeching whenever I turned. It doesn't cost much at all. Good luck!
I sounds like the power steering belt may be loose on your 1994 Geo Prizm. The belt may "look" OK but be sure to check the belt tension also. Power steering belts are especially prone to noise when they are loose.
i found that mine was doing that and replaced the water pump and it stopped
